Isla San Franciso

and not a whiff of wind. We want to go ashore and hike along the island ridge, but it is too hot, the sun like an anvil, the water sharp with little stinging things, and the sand burns your feet. So we huddle in the shade of the cockpit, launch the kayak and swim, despite the stinging. We say we’ll wait until the evening breezes to walk, but they never come. This is summer in the Sea of Cortez: murderously hot, windless, impossibly beautiful: a postcard with teeth.
